Description
Vinho do Fava Reserva Red Blend
Founded in 1920, Casa Ermelinda Freitas is one of Portugal’s most renowned family-run wineries. Led by fourth-generation proprietor Leonor Freitas (who has been honored by the government for her service to the wine industry), the estate has won literally hundreds of major awards and 90+ point scores for its wines. And they make some of our customers’ absolute favorites, too.
Working closely with head winemaker Jaime Quendera, Leonor crafted Vinha do Fava to celebrate the estate’s 100th anniversary. As you’d expect, they put great care and attention into every stage of the winemaking process. They selected the grape varieties on which the estate was founded—Castelão from their oldest vineyards, Touriga Nacional grown in their prized Fava vineyard and Alicante Bouschet, which is loved for its deep, dark charm.
As the finishing touch, Jaime treated the wine to eight months in fine French and American oak barrels. His and Leonor’s efforts were well rewarded—this handcrafted Reserva has won a ‘Best Wine From Portugal’ trophy and gold medal at the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Look forward to intense black cherry and plum flavors, plus sweet spice notes from the barrel aging. Rich and textured, with a round, juicy structure, this luscious Reserva is ready to impress on your dinner table—especially if you’re serving roasted pork or hearty stews.
