Troublemaker By Austin Hope Red Blend
In Austin Hope’s younger days he was something of a troublemaker. And on those days when his school work or attitude didn’t quite live up to the family’s expectations, he was sent to the vineyards for a hard day’s work meant to teach him a lesson. Little did the Hope’s know that this childhood punishment would be the beginning of a life-long passion and career. It was in those days spent in the vineyards, the Paso Robles sun beating down and his hands in the dirt, that Austin found inspiration for his life’s journey.
Troublemaker is inspired by those early days of pushing boundaries and finding your path. Still stirring things up, we here at Troublemaker are all about challenging the status quo and embracing the journey of life. The way we see it, rules restrict our ability to create and innovate. Besides, pushing the boundaries is fun.
Our Troublemaker vineyards live up to the wine they produce. They can be a bit wild and live on the edge; the edge of growing regions, of sub-AVAs and sometimes, civilization, along the Central Coast!
These lively vineyards are located on the eastern edge of the Pomar District, the outskirts of the Arroyo Grande Valley and there are rumors that Austin Hope’s very own vineyard might be in the blend.
One Syrah vineyard is located in the oak forests south east of Arroyo Grande in a remote valley. To say it is wild is an understatement. A long drive out of cellphone range where deer, snakes, bear and mountain lions rule have you knowing that it’s their land and we’re just farming it! Encountering a mountain lion is no joke and it’s happened here.
This intensely rich wine is deep purple in color and radiates aromas of black fruit, cherry and spicy black pepper. On the palate, loads of vanilla, caramel and black currant gracefully evolve into soft supple tannins and a signature zing that balances the wine.
Comprised of varietals that flourish in Paso Robles’ distinct growing region, Troublemaker consists of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. Syrah is the backbone of the wine, setting the stage for a fruit-forward style and a full body. Sweet and bright red fruit flavors of Grenache blend with the rustic and lively flavors of the Mourvèdre. The Zinfandel adds its signature zing to round out the blend and Petite Sirah contributes to the deep purple color.
