Description
Trinchero Napa Valley Central Park West Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Representing three generations committed to crafting wine of the utmost quality, it was architected as a beacon, heralding both our deep roots and our innovative future in Napa Valley. It is not static and continues to grow and evolve as we explore the latest technology and tools, arming our winemakers with everything needed for inspired innovation.
Before Mary and Mario Trinchero moved to Napa Valley, they lived in a brownstone in the heart of Manhattan, Central Park West, and Mario would stroll through Central Park each afternoon to his job as bartender at the famed Waldorf Astoria. Our Central Park West vineyard is aptly named as it sits in the heart of Napa Valley, St. Helena, and produces a Cabernet Sauvignon with rich black and blue fruit, a beautiful texture and silky tannins—a wine as sophisticated as its namesake.
Vineyard
The planting plan and vineyard setup for Central Park West were developed by acclaimed winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. The vineyard rests on the valley floor at the southern end of the St. Helena appellation, and with its ample sunshine and signature Cortina gravelly loam soil, is well-suited for growing red Bordeaux varieties. The vines come from a unique rootstock known as 043-43, which produces small, robust clusters. This, combined with the age of the vines (34 years old) results in low-yielding, small clusters with a signature silkiness.
Winemaking
The planting plan and vineyard setup for Central Park West were developed by acclaimed winemaker Andre Tschelistcheff. The vineyard rests on the valley floor at the southern end of the St. Helena appellation, and with its ample sunshine and deep loam and alluvial soils, is well-suited for growing classic red Bordeaux varieties.
This wine goes through a warmer fermentation, purposefully designed to extract more tannins, depth and richness. The small additions of Malbec and Merlot contribute to the mid-palate and roundness of the wine.
Vintage
2019 started with ample rain which continued into early and late spring. Bud break was within a couple of days of the historical average in May, shortly thereafter we were hit with heavy rain followed by very unstable weather for the next three weeks. A mild summer with ample heat allowed for consistent ripening and harvest in late August and early September. Made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in 100% French oak (70% New) for 18 months.
Deep and rich, the 2019 Central Park West Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromatics of ripe currant, and raspberry followed on the palate by layers of ripe blackberry, and blueberry puree. The mouth-filling velvety texture gives way to a soft and creamy finish.
