Description
PJ Valckenberg Zeller Schwarze Katz Riesling
Zeller Schwarze Katz is one of the most memorable vineyard names in the Mosel area. The legend about the black cat, that launched a famous wine in Germany is unique. In 1863, two wine merchants decided their wine purchase trough a black cat, which crept into the cellar and leaped up onto one of the barrels. Today a black basalt fountain with a black cat (= Schwarze Katze) on top is the trademark of the wines in Zell.
The prime south-facing vineyards on the Mosel were able to build on old successes this year. While it was often too hot and too dry for them in previous years, they were “particularly favoured” in the significantly cooler and wetter wine year of 2021. This was reflected in the predominantly fruity and refreshing wines. Overall, a fine, clear vintage typical of the Mosel is expected with a lot of minerality. The alcohol levels are also somewhat lower here.
