Description
Klinker Brick Brickmason Red Blend
Producing standout, world-class wines is the top priority at Klinker Brick Winery. Relentless attention to detail begins in the vineyard as grape vines require constant care from dormancy to harvest. From farmer’s hand to winemaker’s barrel, the pursuit of quality is resolute.
Klinker Bricks are highly prized bricks that grace many of the historical buildings in Lodi, including our home. Chosen by Craftsmen architects in the 1920’s for their distinctive qualities, including unique shapes and dark, rich color, they are denser and heavier in weight than regular bricks. “Klinker” refers to the unusual sound that they make when banged together, because of their density.
The blend started by barrel sampling through 16 different lots of Zinfandel and choosing two that were exemplary of the varietal and vintage. The Costa Zinfandel was selected for its acidity, red fruit and spicy pepper. The Burney Mettler was the opposite, showcasing big dark fruit with firm tannins and bold structure. These wines were blended equally. In the cellar, barrel fermented Syrah was added to bring additional depth and toasty vanilla aromas. Cabernet was added next to round out the tannins and increase the dark fruit flavor. Lastly, Petite Sirah was added to enhance color and structural integrity, as well as add aromas of blueberry and licorice. The wine sees a total time of 16 months in American oak.
This blend is comprised of 80% Zinfandel, 10% Syrah, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petite Sirah. Deep red fruit aromas lead into notes of dark cherry with soft tannins and a velvet finish.
