Description
Ferrari Carano Pinot Grigio
Don and Rhonda Carano, natives of Reno, Nevada, and second generation Italian-Americans, founded Ferrari-Carano in 1981. Don and Rhonda were introduced to the beauty of Northern Sonoma County in 1979 while searching for wines to enhance the wine lists at the Eldorado, their hotel casino in Reno. They eventually purchased a 60-acre parcel in the Alexander Valley, and realizing the potential for the area, began to acquire additional vineyard land. Ground was broken for Ferrari-Carano Winery in Dry Creek Valley in 1985.
Ferrari-Carano has always been a leading producer of world-class, nationally-acclaimed wines. Vintage after vintage, the wines exhibit a remarkable consistency of style and elegance. Ferrari-Carano’s uncompromising commitment to quality and excellence is a reflection of the desire to produce memorable wines that enhance the pleasures of gracious entertaining.
Vineyard
Individual lots of hand-harvested grapes are gently whole-cluster pressed to minimize any color or harsh tannin extraction, then racked to stainless steel tanks for cold fermentation. This wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, so it retains its bright flavors and crisp acidity. Depth and complexity are enhanced with weekly lees stirring until bottling.
Vintage
The winter of 2021-2022 had minimal rainfall, adding to drought conditions in Sonoma County and the North Coast region. With mild winter and spring temperatures, bud break was ahead of average. Summer was warm and dry, with above average temperatures in August and September, leading to an early and condensed harvest. The warm weather resulted in ripe fruit flavors and the earliest harvest Ferrari-Carano has ever had, August 9th! The white grape harvest was finished on September 29th.
Ferrari-Carano Pinot Grigio is bright, clean, and refreshing. Characters of orange blossom, lychee, lemon-lime, mango, and white peach are brought to life by the wine’s crisp acidity, making it a crowd-pleaser for special occasions or any night of the week. Pinot Grigio is perfect as an apéritif as well as paired with many types of cuisine. Our favorite pairings include dishes such as seafood salad, pan-seared scallops, oysters on the half shell, or entrées with lively and spicy flavors.
