Description
Barrel Craft Spirits Batch 28 Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey
The idea behind Barrell Craft Spirits is to “explore the unique effects of different distillation methods, barrels, and aging environments, and bottle them at cask strength.” This is accomplished through outstanding relationships within the tightly-knit whiskey community and sourcing the best whiskies available without compromise. By definition, the bottlings of Barrell Spirits are limited in nature with new releases hitting the market frequently. Barrels are sourced from around the country (and the world) & shipped to Barrell’s facilities in Georgetown and Frankfurt, Kentucky for additional aging and bottling.
Bourbon Batch 28 from Barrell Craft Spirits is a blend of 10 and 11-year-old whiskies distilled and aged in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. It was created from a marriage of three distinct sub-groups of barrels: the first was aroma driven with notes of tropical fruit and citrus, the second, rich in the mid-palate with round, almond-like characteristics, and the third, peppery and tannic, contributing savory and earthy components and overall structure. The thoughtful marriage of these separate parts resulted in a harmonious bourbon with a nose of dried apricot and boisterous chardonnay followed by a palate of browned butter and candied praline balanced with champagne-like acidity and a finish of tropical fruit and oxidized tea.
Barrel Craft Spirits Batch 28 Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey Notes
To Your Senses:
- APPEARANCE: Earthy orange hue
- AROMAS: Maraschino liqueur and dried apricot lay a gentle, fruity foundation that recalls a boisterous chardonnay. Some rather sappy woodsy notes of rosemary and bamboo shoots. A touch of richness from cocoa butter and tallow
- TASTE: Fruity in nature, yet well-balanced, so that nothing overwhelms. Candied praline sweetness is balanced by a smoked sea salt minerality. Brown butter richness is cut by a radicchio bitterness. Champagne-like acidity is matched by chalky tannin
- FINISH: Complex and tropical, it first explodes with lychee, grapefruit peel, dragonfruit, and strawberry. Some dusty tannin on the tongue gives it length, evolving through lightly oxidized oolong tea and peppery gin until only smoked sea salt lingers
- ABV: 54.43%
