Torre Zambra Madia Organic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

The Torre Zambra estate lies on the first plot cultivated by the family from 1910 onwards and is one of the most historic cellars in Abruzzo, founded by Laurentino De Cerchio in 1961, then taken to higher levels by his son Riccardo in subsequent years. The family chose Villamagna as a place to cultivate vines in Abruzzo for characteristics that are unique in the region. The Villamagna district has a centuries-old tradition in winegrowing, reflected in its name (‘villa magna’ in Latin means ‘large farm’), and has always been considered the most suitable for Montepulciano grape cultivation. Its hills vaunt a rare microclimate that makes them some of the world’s top wine country. The proximity of the sea and the mountains creates swift day/night and seasonal temperature changes that are the secret behind the truly fragrant white wines and the complex, extremely cellarable reds.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo “Madia” is a perfect example of a traditional Abruzzese wine. The deep, intense pitch black hue, with its typical purplish glints, is due to Montepulciano grapes, rigorously selected on the hills of Villamagna, Abruzzo, at an altitude of about 200 metres. The unique south-west aspecting of the vines and the limestone and clay soils, together with a lucky position between seas and mountains, and yields per hectare kept under 140 quintals, guarantee the excellent structure and the good organoleptic complexity of this enjoyable red wine.

The grapes are picked in the first ten days of October, and consequently the maceration in steel tanks at controlled temperature allows to extract the color from the skins. The wine then matures for a year in concrete vats, and after the refinement continues for three months in the bottle.

Ruby red color with purplish glints. The nose opens up with jammy red berry notes with hints of violet and bitter licorice. The palate is well balanced with robust flavors of blackberry jam and underlying floral notes. The finish is firm, with well integrated tannins and flavors of bitter, red licorice. It is an ideal food wine, perfect to pair with a wide range of dishes and enjoyable every day.
